Philippe Park

Philippe Park
September 10, 2015
90 degrees (hot as ever)
Partially cloudy

Philippe Park is the oldest park in Pinellas county. It is a highly managed park established in 1948. We adventured two different types of ecosystems. One being on the Indian mound. (The last evidence of Indians in the area) and near the water.

The first place we ventured to was the Indian Mound. This was the last evidence of Indians in Pinellas County. (its not all that) Everyone listed every type of living plants and animals they saw for 30 minutes. (we only lasted 15) I saw things such as Spanish moss, oak trees, palm trees, butterfly's, wasps, black ants (lots), love bug. dandelion, spider ect.
The ecosystems was considered mostly hammocked .

Then we ventured to our second type of ecosystem, where on the way we saw different types of plants. We saw citrus trees, which this park was originally made from. And passed a strangler tree which looked pretty cool!

The second ecosystem was on the shore of this beautiful park. It was a bug infested place with trees hovering over us in most places.  We saw similar plants such as Spanish moss. However, the soil was sand instead of a heavier soil. There were many more pine trees, which included many pine needles shedding from them. We even witnessed a cool snake in the water!

I've visited Philippe Park many times. However to really be looking for naturally living plants and animals and knowing a little bit about the history made it much more interesting to venture through this park.
