Fred Howard Park

Date: 17/09/15
Observations: It is a cloudy day, slighty wind, with a temperature of 82° F. The water had a temperature of 80° F and an average salinity level of 35 ppm. The pH of the water was 6.

On this field trip, we had time in the beginning to collect data as well as use a scene net to see what we could catch from the seagrass. We caught a few fish as well as a couple Mangrove Tree Crab.

After we observed what was in the area north of the causeway, we headed to the south side and got to snorkel around in the seagrasses. I saw many sponges, a few grey snapper, small schools of pinfish, three types of seagrasses: Manatee Grass, Turtle Grass, and Shoal Grass, in which I found two live scallops.

Overall, it was a wonderful adventure where we got to truly apply what we learned in the classroom, and get a hands on look at what there is our local environment.
