Philippe Park, Safety Harbor, Florida Today the weather was beautiful (92 degrees, sunny and a slight breeze) for our trip to historical Philippe Park. This park is named after Pinellas County's first native, Count Odet Philippe, who originally owned this land and introduced oranges (citrus) trees to Florida. This park has a couple of different ecosystems, the tree-lined picnic areas, along with the water framing half this park, it is truly unique. This park has beautiful canopied areas, as well as wide-open spaces for play, and also great fishing and a boat ramp for access to the Bay. The cutback on personnel in our state's park system is evident by the mess of overgrowth of air potato all over as well as other invasive species, such as the Brazilian pepper. We saw mangroves, a mangrove snake and manatees frolicking right off shore! What a great afternoon in Safety Harbor.
