Cliff Stephens Park
We visited Cliff Stephens Park on Thursday 9/3 to explore field methods. It was hot and muggy out at 98 degrees Fahrenheit with a slight cross breeze. The sky was very clear with only 10% cloud coverage.
Our team started at station 2 which was an open field area with not a lot of diversity. Our testing consisted of placing a pin flag in the ground every 10 meters and observing what plants were around the flag.
1. 50% grass/ 50% weeds
2. 50% grass/ 50% clover
3. 100% grass
No insects
dirt sample was loamy sand
Station 3 was our next stop and had a lot of trees that created a dense canopy which made using the Cruz-all and denseomitor very easy.
Cruz-all between 5-40m
5m - 16
10m - 9
20m - 3
40m - 5
Denseomitor results where 80% coverage
Station 1 was my favorite because it was located at a small pier at the southern end of the park which had cover and was much cooler. At this station we took samples of the water and tested them the following are the results.
Temperature - 89.6 Degrees
Turbidity - 1.3
Salinity- 4
PH - 7
Illumination - 504
This park was very fun to visit, I would defiantly like to visit it again in the winter when its not so hot. I learned a lot about how to use different measurements and experiments to document diverse plant and environmental conditions.
