Fred Howard Park

Fred Howard Park Field Trip
Date: September 17th, 2015
Weather: 81F, cloudy and windy
Salinity: 35ppt, water pH of 6

For our 5th field trip we went snorkeling! We got to the Fred Howard Park around 2:30PM, it was a really cloudy day - thankfully it did not rain at all. The park itself is located in Tarpon Springs and the beach we met at is an artificial one - meaning it was made by humans and was not there naturally.

Our main point of the trip was to study about sea grasses. In Florida we are able to find three types: manatee grass, turtle grass and shoal grass. We saw all three of them when we went snorkeling, also many different types of small fish, crabs and even a stingray. An interesting thing I learned on this trip is that the foam that forms on the shore is actually fat from living organisms.
