Fred Howard is a park on the border of Tarpon Springs, that has a bridge leading out to small island. We met last Thursday around 2pm and got right in the water! First we looked at the three types of seagrasses; shoal, being thin and flat with the lowest depth, turtle, being fat and flat in the mid-depth area, and manatee grass, which is round, in deeper waters. Following observing grasses we used a seine net to try and capture some sea creatures. We ended up with a crab, some fish, and even saw a stingray in the process. Next we went and explored on our own, in water that I would say was a bit too cold. While swimming I saw a blue crab that was bigger than my hand, three scallops, tons of 'bait' fish, sponges, and some plants that I admit look like the truffula trees in 'The Lorax.'
