Wall Springs is a historical natural spring once used as a spa and bathing area, complete with a viewing area, boardwalk and information display, the spring serves as the centerpiece of this beautiful 210 acre park that is connected to the Pinellas Trail. The purpose of this trip was to observe and conduct tests on the spring, estuary, bayou and karst topography within the park. The spring itself pumps out an astonishing 3 thousand gallons of fresh water per hour, yet the salinity measured at its mouth registered at 3 ppt, instead of the expected 0 ppt, Ph measured at 7. This environment harbors many species including mallard ducks, many types of submerged algae, floating duckweed, giant leather ferns and many small minnow looking fish.
After viewing the spring we entered the bayou area, where the sea water meets with the fresh water being pumped out of the spring. In this area there were all types of mangroves growing (red, black and white) as well as a mixture of fresh and salt water aquatic life. The bayou water registered a sailinity of 16-17 ppt, and a Ph of 6.
