Moccasin Lake Park

This was the first of many trips that we will be taking this semester, and can't even express my excitement to explore other parks! Moccasin Lake was a beautiful and very peaceful park.
Walking up to the entrance, we were able to see a cluster of peacocks walking amongst themselves. After introduction, we were split into groups some weed picking, and others evening out the dirt to make a flat surface and creating a waterway. I would consider the peacock to be classified as exotic. In this case, they were either injured or medically ill in order to be held at Moccasin Lake Park. They have been taken outside of their "native habitat" by humans and brought to another location to stay safe from predators. They were introduced from the region of India! They're becoming a problem because there are so many that are getting killed throughout Florida.

Yes, I observed signs of succession at the park. Walking along the trail, to the left everything looked as though it had not been tampered with. Whereas to the right, there were tons of weeds and not as many trees growing. It is characterized as secondary.

Primary is initial development of plant or animal communities.

Secondary is a process started by an event (hurricane, fire, etc.).
