Sawgrass Lake

Last Friday, the visited Sawgrass Lake and learn about the differences between lakes and ponds. The difference between them is that lakes are a fresh water source that is more than 10 acres while ponds are less than 10 acres. Most lakes and ponds are natural but some are man-made. There are two types of lakes, seepage and drainage. Seepage keeps the water in the lake while Drainage does the opposite. There are also three lake characterizations, Oligotrophic, Mesotrophic, and Eutrophic. Oligotrophic has low levels of nutrients, very little organic material at the bottom and high dissolved oxygen at the bottom. Mesotrophic has moderately enriched with natural process of accumulation of sediments and aquatic vegetation. And Eutrophic has high levels of nutrients and organic sediments, low levels of dissolved oxygen at bottom. The animals that lived in the park had turtles, fish, horn hen and alligators.

  1. What sorts of adaptations did the plants and animals have that allow them to thrive in this environment?
