Sawgrass Lake park

Sawgrass Lake park

Our trip to Sawgrass Lake park was a nice stroll through the boardwalk to get to the lake at the end. When we got to Sawgrass Lake, we sat down and talked about what makes something a lake versus a pond. Lakes are larger while ponds are smaller. There are approximately 4,200 lakes and ponds just in the state of Florida alone. Lakes and ponds provide a unique ecosystem for both aquatic and terrestrial animals. They provide a source of water for terrestrial and a place that holds water during times of drought and heavy rains. Some lakes and ponds may dry out over time due to evaporation but then they are able to fill up again during the rainy season, returning the animals back to the area. Below are some of the pictures taken during the trip to the park. The first photo is the Common Moorhen which there were many around the park and in the water. Some of the Gar fish could be seen from above since they were so close to the surface of the water and the water was clear enough for them to be seen from above. There were various softshell turtles in the water around the park. Some baby alligators were seen throughout the trek of the park and once we reached the end by the lake, this alligator came right up to the edge of the pier, he was about six feet long.

  1. Don't forget to also include information about adaptations that organisms have to be successful in this environment.
