On Thursday, November 13th, 2014, our Field Biology class visited Brooker Creek. It was a great experience to trudge around in the mud. At first we were all hesitant but as we got into it we all really let go and had a great time.
Before we got a chance to slosh through the water, we learned that Brooker Creek is the largest preserve in Pinellas county at 8,000 acres. We also learned that hammocks 'like' to burn, while flatwoods need to burn. Another thing we learned was about the elevation and the changes that occur as you get higher. At lower elevations, the cypress' are wet, while higher at elevations pines are dryer.

A scorpion bug our class almost stepped on! He was clearly very mad at us all.
A Sundew, a carnivorous plant. Dr. Goergen was very excited about it!
Nice strolls through the park....
