Last week’s field trip took place at the beautiful Botanical Gardens on September 11, 2014. The weather was nice at around 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 degrees Celsius with 40%-50% cloud coverage. This area is a managed area where workers tend to the plants daily. The word botanical literally stands for combination of plants put together but not particularly together in a natural, unmanaged area. Once there, we were given the task to split into groups and conquer a scavenger hunt. This scavenger hunt led us on a search for multiple things including a few such as: An example of humans and wildlife sharing the environment, evidence of secondary succession, an example of a seedless vascular plant and evidence of disturbance that has effected an ecosystem. Those were just a few of the 21 items we needed to find and take pictures of.
Here is the Blanket Flower which I found quite pretty with its colorful pedals.
Below here is a type of coffee plant, not the kind we drink, but has the glossy leaves and is also called Psychotria Nervosa
Below is a picture of my partner Nicole taking pictures of a bee as one of the answers to our scavenger hunt.
Below is a picture of the bottom of a fig tree that the class had gathered under before our scavenger hunt began.
