KAPOK PARK - City of Cleawater, Clearwater, Florida
This park is located across the street from the old Kapok Tree Restaurant and Ruth Eckerd Hall. Although the famous Kapok Tree is not located at this park, the original tree is located across the street at Kapok Gardens (now known as Sam Goody Music and Kapok Special Events and Catering). The weather was absolutely beautiful for this trip. The temperature was around 86 degrees, sunny, with a low dew point in comparison to the days before and after. Wind from the North at about 10 miles per hour with less than 5% cloud cover.
This park was originally Kapok Manor Mobil Home Park with Alligator Creek running through the center of it. This property was a constant flood problem for the City of Clearwater. This area had floodplains that were adjacent to the wetlands, which had been filled in for development (human destruction to natural ecosystem). The City of Clearwater purchased the property and turned it into a flood water management system disguised as a park. Following are some pictures of this very well maintained park. As you can see, many areas are groomed, and boasts a brand new boardwalk trail. This park also has access to the Reams Trail, the Kapok Extension, all of which connect to Cliff Stephens Park. What a small little parks world in that area of Clearwater.
