Crystal Beach Park is almost like a small hidden treasure,
there are so many examples of things that we have learned from class that
showed at this location. Upon arrival we all saw that there was a long pier,
which we walked down to see what we could see in the waters. In the waters we
were able to see, a lot of sea grass, a great blue heron, sea foam, sting ray, hermit
crab, small fish, and some floating garbage.
Our task for this location was to go out and measure 30
meters in the location we were assigned, and see what our diversity would be
every 3 meters. During out different 3 meter looking’s we came across a few
star fish, two different types of worms, different sea grasses (mostly turtle
grass), small filter feeders, oysters, and ever a crab claw.
Once we were finished with this we went to where the class
was gathered and we talked about the three examples of mangroves that are
located at Beach Park (white, black and red). We then talked about the
different sea grasses () and got to see examples of each.
Once we understood each of these we then calculated the
diversity of the items we had located during our 30 meter assignment and
determined if our group was very diverse or was a low diversity group. Ours was
very high at 0.824 percent due to us getting many of the same items each 3
meters.
This is a very nice park that allowed us to be able to explore
a little more with not as many people being able to interfere. Also, it allowed
us to see firsthand what we could find without knowing what we would dig up
from the bottom of the sea.
