Brooker Creek Preserve

On Thursday November 13th, we went to Brooker Creek Preserve. It was about 74 degrees out and had a 60% cloud coverage. It is a managed environment and you could see the cat scars (fire scars from where the trees had been burned) on the trees. Brooker Creek is one of the largest preserves in Pinellas County as it is 8,000 acres and shares it's land with a power company. Brooker Creek had different plant communities. We explored the flatwood community, wetlands, and the hammock community. When walking the trails at Brooker Creek,  the type of plant communities would change with the elevation(not that you could tell the elevations changed).
An armadillo who decided to join us near the end of our adventure.
The skin of a snake who thankfully we did not see. However, we did see a pigmy rattle snake while avoiding mud.

Various different plants from the different plant communities we saw.

For the last part of the field trip we went trudging through mud. Above is a picture from the first part of the muddy trail.
